INGREDIENTS FOR A HEALTHIER AND FAIRER WORLD

Organic, fair and vegan.

"Who wants to bake a good cake must have seven things" says a popular children's song. bionella also contains seven good things that make the world a little better.

That's because all the ingredients in bionella are organically grown which protects the environment. In addition, cocoa, bourbon vanilla, sugar and cocoa butter are fair-trade products that are certified by the HAND IN HAND program.

The program stands for prices above market level, humane, healthy and safe working conditions. Fair trade thus directly improves the living conditions of farmers and thus supports local value creation.

Last but not least, all ingredients for bionella are plant-based - the ideal nut nougat cream for all do-gooders.

SEVEN GOOD THINGS

Get to know the different organic, fair bionella ingredients – click on the individual arrows to learn more!

  • Crunchy, aromatic organic hazelnuts - only they make bionella what it is: a real nut nougat cream. The sun-kissed powerhouses come from our own organic cultivation projects in Turkey and Azerbaijan.

    Did you know?
One jar of bionella contains around 70 shelled organic hazelnuts - which amounts to precisely14%. The fine nuts not only taste good, but also contain a number of vitamins and minerals. To ensure that as much of this as possible is retained in the nuts, they are gently roasted in a special process before being ground. After all, only the right roasting temperature allows the nuts to develop their full flavor later in bionella.

  • The wonderful taste of chocolate - it simply belongs to bionella. The fair-trade organic cocoa powder for bionella comes to us from the tropical lowlands of the Dominican Republic. More precisely: from the peasant cooperative Conacado that is certified by the HAND IN HAND fair trade program. This means that working conditions are humane, healthy and safe, and that farmers receive a fair wage for their cocoa fruit. Conocado grows cacao with bananas, citrus fruit and other shade trees in sustainable mixed farming.

    Did you know?
As a partner in the HAND IN HAND program, farmers receive premiums in addition to the fair price, which they can invest in their own projects. The cocoa cooperative uses the money to expand its infrastructure and improve its water supply, for example.

  • A true treasure - genuine organic bourbon vanilla from the Comoros gives bionella its noble taste. The vanilla spice is valuable not only because it tastes so special, but also because its cultivation and processing are very complex and require a lot of manual work. Each vanilla flower, for example, is pollinated by hand.
Growing vanilla for the socially committed and HAND IN HAND certified company Vanicaom gives the destitute people in the Comoros new perspectives. Because the farmers receive fair and adequate wages and social security.

    Did you know?
The aroma of the vanilla bean does not only consist of vanillin. Its aroma spectrum is extremely complex and contains another 150 aromas. This is what makes vanilla so unique.

  • Organic cane sugar from Paraguay provides the right sweetness. The sweetener is grown and gently processed by the Manduvirá farmers' cooperative in the southwest of the country. The community has a long history and focuses on social working conditions and educational projects. As a partner in the HAND IN HAND fair trade program, the farmers receive prices above the world market level as well as premiums for their social projects and they can rely on long-term purchase guarantees.

    Did you know?
In conventional sugar cane cultivation, in contrast to organic cultivation, a large part of the plant is burned down for harvesting until the actual sugar cane begins. This makes harvesting easier, but harms nature in the long term.

  • Organic sweet lupine flour provides the special creaminess of bionella. The flour of this legume comes from Germany and is a valuable alternative to the usual milk powder. This makes bionella a vegan nut nougat cream.

    Did you know?
The name "sweet lupin" does not refer to a sweet taste, but to the absence of bitter substances. Regular lupine varieties are bitter and cannot be eaten. Both varieties bloom beautifully and are a real delight for gardeners, bees and insects.

  • bionella is wonderfully soft to the touch thanks to its organic cocoa butter. It is organically grown in the Dominican Republic and is also fair traded through the fair trade program HAND IN HAND. In this way, it creates jobs and perspectives for local people. The cooperatives Cooproagro and Conacado are behind it.

    Did you know?
Cocoa butter is always produced when cocoa powder is extracted from cocoa beans. After the cocoa beans have been separated from the fruit, fermented, cleaned and dried, they are finely ground. When this cocoa mass is pressed, the golden-yellow, clear cocoa butter separates and what remains is the press cake, which is ground into cocoa powder.

  • Together with the organic sweet lupine flour, the organic sunflower oil makes bionella really creamy. The oil is gently pressed from the seeds of the bright yellow flowers. Only specially bred sunflower varieties, so-called high-oleic varieties, are used for this, because their seeds are particularly heat-stable. This property is important for pressing and the removal of odors and flavors by means of steam.

    Did you know?
Conventional edible oils are subject to additional processes, such as bleaching, deacidification or degumming. This is prohibited for organic oils.
